“What?” vs. “Why?”

I just wanted to share this simple quote from the book, INSIGHT, by Tasha Eurich. (Here, she is recounting the statement of a 42-year-old woman who walked away from her career as an attorney because there was no joy for her.

If you ask why, you’re putting yourself into a victim mentality. People end up in therapy forever for that. When I feel anything other than peace, I say “What’s going on?'” “What am I feeling?” “What is going on in my head?” “What’s another way to see this situation?” “What can I do to respond better?”

INSIGHT, Eurich, p. 100

The standout part for me here is her statement, “anything other than peace.” What are you thinking or doing when you feel “anything other than peace”?
